I don’t know what it is about the COVID pandemic of 2020 or the generally lousy weather of that year which inspired me to create these simple interior museum garden scenes and their outdoor courtyards.
Perhaps it was my many fond memories of walking around The National Gallery in Washington, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, The Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh and the Chicago Art Institute. I treasure those memories of stone halls and entryways, shimmering fountains, illuminated skylights and, of course, viewing the centuries of art treasures that surrounded me there.
I found that when I was feeling low, walking those halls by myself on a quiet weekend afternoon was akin to a transformative religious experience for me. It seemed to make the world and everything in it a bit better.
I hope the viewers of this box of mine can experience some of the quiet enjoyment and tranquility that those vivid memories have provided me.
