A few years ago, I discovered the work of the English miniaturist, Mike Klem. He creates wonderful miniature tools and machinery which I have included in this box. I have always been interested in “good functional design” particularly relating to hand tools and machinery used to make things. Making things is very important to me. as a result, I am a big fan of the work of artists and designers such as Jasper Johns, Jim Dine, Thomas Moser, Raymond Loewy and others.
From that came my inspiration for this box entitled “The Workshop”. It is the interior of a turn-of-the-century furniture maker’s shop with lots and lots of interesting machinery, partially finished furniture pieces, sunlight streaming through the windows and skylights and, of course, a dog. I like to imagine that this would be a wonderful quiet place to spend a sunny spring or fall day with my dog making stuff and having fun.
